Meanwhile, back in the Democratic campaign for the presidential nomination, we are once again faced with an ongoing, often well-disguised, strategy of Obama character assassination and fear mongering, perpetuated by various Clintons and their minions.
I am an emancipated man.
A woman president will be a good thing for the U.S., when the right woman comes along. Hillary Clinton IS NOT that woman. I can imagine few other women of prominence with more baggage or cloudier ethics. I believe she is quite capable of doing whatever she thinks is necessary to win, although she has failed mightily in the past as well.
We have seen that “win at all costs” mentality at work in America before, and I am hopeful my fellow voters are beginning to realize how divisive that tactic is in the end, and how cheap the most expensive victory can become.Or perhaps more accurately, how costly a “Clinton-style” campaign can be, win or lose.
Ultimately, I am not as concerned about electing a woman president in my lifetime as I am about encouraging new generations of Americans to take part in politics and society again, with courage, hope and optimism.
I believe Hillary Clinton is the wrong person at the right time to achieve those ends - by any means.
As it relates to the “scorched earth” nature of Team Clinton vis-a-vis Barack Obama and anyone else in their path, my opinion echoes that of Benjamin Franklin, who noted quite astutely more than 250 years ago:
“He that scatters Thorns, let him not go barefoot.”

it’s a shame that you had to invoke franklin here, i do not think he would agree with you. the bush administration has also been marked by courage, hope and optimism; they are not enough.
pragmatic leaders may not be as personally satisfying, but they are more trustworthy. then at least, you know the limits of their dreams.
Hi Bright Strangely/Strangely Bright;
Whether Mr. Franklin would or would not agree with me regarding the Clintons’ tendency to “scatter thorns” along their political path, I suppose we can never know for sure. Invoking him is what I do here
Certainly, the Clintons do not have the market cornered when it comes to dirty “Pool”itics.
I am amused, however, that your veiled rebuttal regarding GWB and BHO is nearly the same as the talking points on this subject put out by the Clinton campaign last week.
I’m afraid I disagree with you regarding the Bush administration.
Mr. Bush was - and is - an underachieving, over-matched, two-dimensional ideologue who is surrounded by, and completely enmeshed within, a cadre of dangerous, radical, and thoroughly disingenuous political machinators not seen around here since the days of the Teapot Dome.
Mrs. Clinton “pragmatic?”
If you mean hard-boiled and/or sober, I suppose I concur. She may also be a fine human being. I just don’t trust her, nor can I personally sanction her tactics and strategies, dreams notwithstanding.
bush may be an underacheiving, overmatched ideologue, but he believes himself a hero. i see no reason to think he knows how depressing his life looks to me. thanks for responding though. i didn’t even know i had the talking points right! i would encourage you to remember these words from franklin which i just learned from your blog, “I resolve to speak ill of no man whatever, not even in a matter of truth; but rather by some means excuse the faults I hear charged upon others, and upon proper occasions speak all the good I know of every body.”
at least, until after the nominee is decided? i’d kind of like to keep this republic away from the republicans. however destructive team clinton may seem, they left rather a lot for bush to destroy properly. as far as i know, these were my own opinions, but feel free to correct me again.
